| Economy of Resources We are conscious of making efficient use of the materials we use and limiting the amount of waste produced. Many of our designs are straight forward representations of function, and the joinery and materials we select are proudly expressed and exposed, eliminating the need for extra materials to conceal or cloak the forms. We allow the materials to speak for themselves through clean, simple lines and find little need for ornament. This approach also makes the pieces easy to ship or move if you need to do so. They are also easy to repair and maintain. Pleasing Aging Process We try and select materials and joinery that age nicely over time. We do our best to predict how the materials will change and decay with age. Copper, stone, steel and wood all age differently. We try to incorporate aging forecasting into our discussion of material selection and choose ones that age gracefully, again in hopes of keeping the work cherished over many years. Intimacy Whether it's an inclusion of an unusual object, clever joinery or movement that results in a transformation, we like to design pieces that have a human or living component. Details that are difficult to define, perhaps causing a smile, a nod of the head, or a gentle caress are all important aspects in our work. We believe that these subtle, idiosyncratic elements help develop a bond or connection between object and person, thus making our work a bit more coveted and less likely to end up on the curb. We'd be happy to discuss any of these items in more detail or perhaps learn from suggestions you may have for us. |
